ODE Project Success on Durango

« back

Monday 16th February 2009

International engineering contractor, ODE, is celebrating the successful completion of the Durango Field development in the Southern North Sea. The topsides modification work for the project was performed by ODE's Brownfield Engineering team based in Great Yarmouth and was achieved without accident or incident.

The Durango development, which is operated by Bridge North Sea Limited with overall field development managed by Asset Development and Improvement Limited (ADIL), is a 14.3km subsea tieback to Perenco's Waveney platform, a Normally Unattended Installation, located about 36km off the North Norfolk coast,

ODE, were awarded the contract by ADIL on behalf of Bridge for the topside modifications to the host facility including the FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction/commissioning and start-up assistance of the platform.

ODE liaised closely with both ADIL and Perenco, operator of the Waveney Platform, in carrying out the topsides modification work, which included connection of the riser into the existing header plus additional piping and instrumentation modifications. To meet the schedule set by ADIL the topsides modification needed to be completed within a 10 month period, which set certain challenges in sourcing materials. This tight schedule was met utilising ODE's combined local and international knowledge.

The Durango products are transmitted via an 8" pipeline to the Waveney platform where the product is separated into gas, condensate and water using the Waveney facilities and then metered and recombined for export to the Bacton Terminal facilities via the Lancelot Area Pipeline System (LAPS). The platform has now been designed to facilitate operations in either Waveney or Durango mode. The subsea well is controlled by umbilical from the Waveney platform control system. The platform is operated remotely from the Great Yarmouth Control Centre.

ODE regional manager Paul Chilvers said:

"The success of projects like this stems from ODE's understanding of the operational requirements of the platform and how to work with all the involved parties.

I'd like to thank everyone for their efforts in achieving first gas on November 27th."
